All The Records Lionel Messi Has Broken This Season Alone

Lionel Messi has been a special player for Barcelona for over 15 years, and he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. The Argentina forward continues to break records, and this season alone the all-time great added 11 more to his impressive history.

Scoring Goals For Fun

One thing Messi has been noted for during his stellar career is scoring bags of goals. Messi recorded 25 goals in the 2019-20 season, low by his standards, but that figure gave the Barcelona his seventh La Liga top goalscorer award.

By winning the scoring title for the seventh time, Messi became the only player in history to win it so many times. After scoring more than 20 goals in La Liga, Messi became the first player in history to score at least 20 for 12 seasons in a row.

Messi’s scoring records didn’t stop there, however, and the star also became the player with the most hat-tricks in La Liga history with 36, two ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Setting His Teammates Up

Messi doesn’t just steal all of the limelight for himself, he also has no problem setting his teammates up to score too. This season, the Argentine broke the record for the most number of assists in a single La Liga season with 22.

He overtook his longtime Barcelona teammate, Xavi, who had secured 21 assists many seasons ago. In creating over 20 assists this term, Messia became the first player in the history of the Spanish top flight to record over 20 goals and 20 assists in a single season.

Messi’s total career goal involvements also hit a milestone this season as the forward became the first player in soccer history to assist or score in over 1,000 goals. These stats just show how much of another level Messi is on compared to the rest of the soccer world.

We’re Not Done

As if those impressive records weren’t enough, Messi went on to record even more. Barcelona’s magician won the most ‘Player of the Month’ awards in a single La Liga season, winning the accolade seven times.

Messi also became the first player in the history of Spain’s top soccer league to be involved in over 500 wins. The Argentine icon has been a villain against Real Madrid ever since he broke onto the scene, and he now is the all-time appearance leader in El Clasico matches with 43.

The Best Of The Best

Lionel Messi has proven he is the best of the best by competing at the highest level for well over a decade. This year, Messi became the first player in history to score in 15 Champions League seasons in a row.

He also holds the record for most teams scored against in the competition, with Messi finding the net against 34 different European teams.

Lionel Messi has already proven how good he is throughout his career. Despite hitting such incredible heights, Messi continues to shine and break records to prove why he is one of the all-time greats.
