Tank Ideas For Extra Large Snake Breeds

Snakes can make excellent pets for all kinds of reasons. Some breeds get larger than others, and they have different needs compared to smaller breeds. If you want to make sure that your larger reptile is happy and fulfilled, then it might be time to check out some tank ideas for extra large snake breeds.

Opt for newspaper

Extra large snake breeds have a habit of leaving trails whenever they move through their substrate. This can quickly become a bit of a nightmare on the eyes. If you don’t want chippings everywhere, then it could be time to think about a liner and newspaper instead. All you need to do is place the liner along the bottom of the enclosure to make sure it’s waterproof. Then, simply lay pieces of newspaper over the top, and you’re done!

Create a solid hide

Extra large snakes often love to squeeze into small gaps and destroy anything in their path. Sound familiar? Thankfully, there are plenty of ways that you can make a solid hide. Some use a sturdy plastic box with a gap cut in the side to let their snake in and out. Others build platforms out of wood. These are a great option if the platform can take the weight as your snake can hide underneath when they want somewhere to hide and bask on top when they want to enjoy the warmth.

Go large or go small with water

Many extra large snake owners soon learn how their reptiles love to get water just about everywhere they can. Most are left with two options. You can either invest in a large water bowl, such as a cat litter tray, and keep it barely filled so that your snake has somewhere to bathe, or you can invest in a small bowl that’s enough for when your snake wants a drink and make sure that you give them a bath every now and then to keep their skin hydrated. It all depends on what fits you and your snake the best.

Choose solid decoration

Just because they are an extra large snake doesn’t mean that you have to forgo all decoration. You just need to make sure that it’s nice and solid so that it doesn’t break under their weight. Large logs are a great option if you have the space for them in their enclosure. Oversized rocks are also brilliant as they can act as basking spots as well as add something extra to the tank. If you’re feeling really adventurous and you have the upward space, then you can hang some plants along the top of the enclosure for a little bit of greenery.

There are so many great things that come with keeping an extra large snake breed. However, the snakes aren’t for everyone. Ensure that you have everything you need to make a brilliant and thriving tank for your extra large snake breed can help to keep them happy while also making them an attractive addition to your home.
