Afraid of Spiders? This Is Why You Should Get One as a Pet!

Let’s face it; many of us have a fear of spiders. Why? While there can be a host of reasons that many of us avoid them, some of us just need to get to know them a little better. Are you afraid of spiders? This is why you should get one as a pet!

They’re fascinating to watch

It can be easy to think that spiders sit there all day. However, they actually get up to a lot in their tank and can be fascinating to watch. They often build intricate tunnels and webs in their enclosures, but that’s not all. Tending to a pet spider is very different from caring for other pets. It might not be long before you find yourself lost in it all.

They are gentle

Many pet spiders are incredibly gentle. They don’t typically bite, unlike many rodents, and will happily walk around slowly. The best bit? Each one has its own personality! Some will happily spend hours gently strolling around. However, spiders are also incredibly fragile, so many spend all their lives living happily in their tank – meaning you won’t have to touch them at all. It’s like having a new friend that you don’t have to worry about. A little food and water and they should be happy to keep themselves to themselves.

They are a pet for life

Ok, maybe not for life, but female spiders can live as long as 25 years! Males tend to only live for a few years – and there’s a good difference for the varying lifespan. It’s all thanks to their life in the wild. Males mature a lot faster than females, so there is never any chance that brothers and sisters accidentally forget that they are related. If you welcome a female spider into your life, then there’s a good chance that you might find yourself growing attached to the addition.

They are collectible

There are so many species of spiders out there in the world that can be kept as pets. They come in all kinds of shapes and colors. Would you believe there are more than 800 types of tarantulas alone? That’s a lot of spiders! Adding a pet spider to your home can brighten up most rooms. Plus, you might soon find yourself the talking point of your friends. Hey, it’s not every day that we get to see a pet spider.

They don’t need much maintenance

Pet spiders are great because they don’t require much care. All you need to do is set up their tank, and you’re pretty much good to go. They need cleaning out around once a year, but bioactive tanks mean that other critters can do the cleanup instead. They usually only need feeding once or twice a month. However, some can go as long as two years without eating.

Spiders might not be everyone’s first choice of pet. Still, there are so many reasons that welcoming one into your home could be the perfect answer – especially if you are afraid of spiders!
