We live in a world where we are constantly told to watch our weight, to make sure we’re eating our five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, and to get out and about to get our hearts pumping. But who has the time or the energy for that? When you live a busy life, finding the time to go to the gym or stock up on fresh fruit and veg from the farmers market can seem like an impossible task. Instead, it’s much easier to pick up takeout on the way home, or walk to the nearest convenience store for snacks. It doesn’t have to be difficult, though…
Start growing your own
If you’re really struggling to add healthy foods into your diet, it may be because these foods just don’t entice you as you walk around the grocery store. To really engage with fruits and veg, you need to be excited by them – and this excitement can come from growing them! You don’t need a huge vegetable patch to grow these products, as you can grow things like chilis, carrots, and kale inside your own house. By watching them grow and cultivating them from seeds, you will realize that eating healthily can also be fun.
Opt for the frozen stuff
Buying fresh fruit and veg sometimes isn’t an option. If you live by yourself, you’ll know that these foods often go off before you can eat them, or you just find them too expensive. If that’s the case, you can actually opt for the frozen stuff instead! Frozen fruit and veg holds all of the same nutrients as fresh fruit and vegetables, and they’re so much easier to eat and use. You can simply pop a frozen bag of veg in the microwave for your dinner, or you can whirl up a smoothie using frozen fruit. It’ll last longer, and these bags are normally cheaper, too.
Make it easier for yourself
When you’re hungry and looking for a snack, you normally just open your refrigerator or your pantry and grab the nearest thing you can find. But what happens if you make the healthy option the easiest to find? One of the best ways to trick yourself into eating healthier is to stash all of the unhealthy food on the top shelf, behind all of your other food, or even throw it away entirely. If you can’t reach it with ease, you’ll be more inclined to forget about it. Instead, pop the healthy food at the front, so it’s the first thing you see and reach for. Utter genius.
Eating healthily doesn’t need to be a chore, and it doesn’t need to be difficult. All you need to do is find little ways to trick yourself, so it doesn’t feel as though you’re forcing yourself to eat these foods. Luckily, these tricks won’t take a huge amount of time or effort, so you can rest easy knowing that you’re putting the good stuff back into your body.
