Dust mites can also thrive on your pillowcases
Thankfully, pillowcases and other bedding don’t offer the ideal environment for a lot of microorganisms to grow and thrive. That’s why you’re unlikely to be severely ill even if you haven’t changed your sheets in a while. However, there is still a chance for things like ringworm and staph to develop here and infect you. What’s more, while this environment might not be great for most microorganisms, it’s perfect for dust mites. These tiny creatures love feasting on skin cells, so the more you shed, the more mites you have to deal with. If you’re allergic to them, this can lead to skin problems, trouble breathing, and more.
Try to wash your pillowcases every week
Fortunately, you don’t have to just put up with these irritants. By washing your pillowcases once a week, you significantly decrease the risk of developing any problems while you sleep. Washing your bedding on the hottest setting will ensure that your laundry comes out thoroughly clean. What’s more, showering and cleaning your face every night before bed will reduce the amount of stuff you deposit when you sleep. Plus, putting an allergy cover on your pillows should help keep dust mites at bay. Just make sure you remember to wash these with the rest of your bedding.
