When Are The Healthiest Times To Eat Each Meal?

The concept of mealtimes is something that’s universally understood. However, that doesn’t mean everyone actually eats at the same time. Quite the opposite actually, which isn’t always ideal. Breakfast

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and one that’s often argued to be the most important. However, does this actually mean you need to enjoy the meal as early as possible? You don’t need to do this as soon as you jump out of bed, but the less time between waking up and eating, the better. Lunch

For some people, lunch begins at 12. For others, it doesn’t happen until 2 pm. The reasons for this vary from busy work days to eating breakfast late. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how good your reasoning is because that won’t change the food’s impact on your body. In most cases, it’s better to eat lunch earlier rather than later. This means you should be enjoying the bulk of your daily calorie intake well before you’re halfway through your waking hours.

Dinner

If you work a standard nine to five job, you may well eat your dinner relatively late. After all, spending half an hour in the kitchen might not appeal that much to you when you’ve just put in eight hours at work. However, if you want to do right by your health, it’s imperative that you don’t schedule these mealtimes too late. As with your other meals, earlier is better with dinner. In this case, it’s because eating late can increase the risk of chronic disease. That’s because your body begins releasing melatonin in the hours leading up to sleep. At the same time, it decreases the amount of insulin it produces, meaning it’s less able to digest sugars. As a result, you’re more likely to gain weight and put yourself in danger of health issues later in life.

What if life gets in the way?

It’s easy to say that this is what you should do, but it can be hard to put it all into action when life gets in the way. At the end of the day, the most important things are to try and have your meals early and eat everything within a 12-hour window. If that means altering your sleep schedule so you can fit in breakfast before work, for instance, this might be something you need to consider.

Failing to stick to these mealtimes every day won’t destroy your body. However, consistency is key, so if you want to be healthy, try to follow them as often as you can.
