That’s because losing or gaining weight isn’t all about exercising as much as you can or eating a single lettuce leaf every single day, but it’s instead about how much your body can realistically eat in order to achieve your desired goals. What is macro tracking all about?

To begin with, we really need to understand what macros are. This word is actually short for “macronutrients,” which are the basic components of the food that we eat on a daily basis. They include your fats, your carbs, and your protein. The reason why people find so much success in tracking their macros is because they are worked out for each individual person, and what one person’s macros may be, another may have completely different macros. This allows people to eat the food that they like – but without going overboard. This means that you don’t have to restrict yourself when losing or gaining weight. Counting the numbers

Of course, many people could assume that tracking your macros is the same as tracking your calories – but that isn’t the case at all. Many experts would say that tracking macros is much more efficient and successful than tracking your calories, and it’s impossible to count one alongside the other. That’s because one gram of protein and one gram of carbohydrates could both be worth four calories, but the same gram of fat could be worth nine calories. By ensuring that you are following your macros, you are also ensuring that you are eating the right amount of calories, but the same can’t be said the other way around.

How to work out your macro goals

As we’ve already mentioned, tracking your macros is specific to each individual person, which means that everyone is different. The way that you work this out first depends on what you want from this macro adventure. If you want to lose weight, you need to work out the following equations:

Protein: 1g x your body weight in pounds
Carbs: 1g x your body weight in pounds
Fat: 0.27g x your body weight in pounds

However, if you want to gain weight, then you need to use a different equation:

Protein: 1g x your body weight in pounds
Carbs: 2g x your body weight in pounds
Fat: 0.75g x your body weight in pounds

One of the best things about tracking your macros is that you can still eat delicious food that you love, but you just need to be more wary about the contents of these foods. When you have this mastered, you should be able to reach your goals.
